Day 111 Thursday 21st July 2011
We were very sad to say goodbye to our dear friend Valodia who had put so much into making us feel very welcome in Tashent. Certainly a life changing experience for me as I will now always try and help travellers in a similar way when I get back home.
We reached the city of Kansk fairly quickly and met some pretty horrific roads bypassing the city and at this time I remembered reading the advice of others to take the route through the city – too late. We eventually got through and headed for Krasnoyarsk then onwards to Kemerovo where we decided to stop for the night. We finally found a hotel but the only room they had was a suite costing 10,000 roubles (over £200) so we politely refused. Another hotel just down the road said it was full. We rode back into the city but found nothing. It was getting dark so we headed out of the bright lights and rode for another 100 miles or so in the dark until we just had to stop. Mark found us a good camping spot down a small track in amongst the tall grass and so we set up his two man tent, ate the bread given to us by Galina with some tinned tuna and then crashed out for a few hours until dawn.
