Omsk

Day 113  Saturday 23rd July 2011

We got ourselves all packed up and had a coffee in the hotel before setting off at around 7.30am.  A guy in his car outside the hotel offered us the chance to follow him through the city of Novosibirsk and put us onto the M51 – the road to our next destination, Omsk.  We darted in and out of the traffic with him until we eventually crossed the river and signs for Omsk became visible. We said goodbye to our good Samaritan and started the westward route again.

Since Kansk there had been no more roadworks and road surfaces were good and this theme continued throughout our day and we covered the 400 miles or so to Omsk in good time reaching the city at around 3pm.  My Garmin was showing Omsk  to have a Hotel Ibis so we set the route and we arrived at the large hotel a few minutes later. The pretty receptionist spoke excellent English and we booked for two nights and as an added bonus there is wifi - hooray. The only downside is that the first night will have to be a shared double bed as twin bedded rooms are not available until Sunday.

We showered and took ourselves to a nearby “Tradishinal” Irish Pub (that’s their spelling of traditional)  and had a really good meal and a couple of beers to round it all and a decision to do sightseeing in Omsk tomorrow.
