Off to the Seaside

Day 41  Friday 13th May 2011

We moved north again today. Setting off at the indecently late hour of 10am we followed the 101 through the Oregon Dunes, in and out of Tsunami zones, until we reached the Pacific coastline again. The blue sea was whipping up a misty ozone spray which filled my nostrils with the familiar smell of seaside holidays. The cool sea breezes were also making me a tad cold too so we stopped at a little expresso hut for a coffee and we met Dustin, a paramedic, on his Aprilia RST1000 V twin who, like us,  was taking advantage of the dry day.

Another Crazy buikding - this time on Route 101

Route 18 Salmon River Highway took us away from the coast at Lincoln City and the further inland we rode the warmer it became and soon I was back to my normal operating temperature but I set myself a mental reminder to put on an undershirt next time I set off – being cold on a bike is not good news.
We found the Phoenix Inn on Locust Street easily enough and a very pleasant hotel it is too. Our stay being marred only by the presence of a party of schoolkids with little or no supervision who were noisy until they finally flaked out at around 11pm. We ate at the Red Lobster and our fast talking waiter, Nathan, kept us fed and watered with Salmon. Shrimp and Talipia (which was a new one for us) – all very nice.
