Day 51 Sunday 22nd May 2011
Boredom has set in to such a degree that we thought we would brave crossing the Interstate (by bridge I hasten to add) and pay a visit to the nearby Emerald Queen Casino with a mission to lay chips on numbers 5, 8 and 11 on the roulette table. What a waste of time that was ! There are two Emerald Queen Casinos some 4 miles or so apart and the one closest our hotel is not the one with a roulette table – just acres of slot machines buzzing and ringing away in the semi darkness manned by players who sit numb faced watching the reels whizz around hoping for the big win. Worse for me is the fact that most of the casinos (Las Vegas included) still allow smoking at the slots and gaming tables so it was a very short visit for us.
Disappointed, we headed back to the hotel, finished off our bottle of wine and finalised packing of bike gear for tomorrow. I went the whole hog and actually loaded the bike ready for the off leaving just a couple of last minute items for the next day – the bikes now actually look like adventure travelling bikes with the spare tyres secured tightly at the back.
The only other excitement of the day was watching a group of three in a neighbouring room get in their car and drive the 300 yards or so to Johnnies diner for breakfast and then drive back again – this is truly an amazing country !
