Day 50 Saturday 21st May 2011
Absolutely nothing to report today. We repacked our panniers again ready for shipping, watched half a dozen films on HBO opened our bottle of wine and just generally wasted a day.
The day did bring some mirth and merriment however. There is a evangelist preacher, Harold Camping, in the Southern States (Carolinas I think) who predicted that 21st May 2011 would be the start of the end of the world and that true believers would be “raptured” into heaven on this very day. Some enterprising soul decided to advertise his services for looking after their pets for $135 (that’s about £83) and at the time of writing he had over 250 customers for this money spinning enterprise. His comment to the press went something along the lines of “They are going to be disappointed twice. Once because they haven’t been raptured and again because I don’t do refunds”.
